| Personal History | As a young boy, he liked to pick flowers and leaves off of plants and place them under his microscope to see how the things lived. This behavior earned him the mockery of other children on the Colony. The bullying was extreme, and from this he learned to fight at a young age. A security officer; Greyson Sawyer took him under his wing and taught the boy what he knew of hand to hand. By the time he was of age to go to Starfleet Academy he was quite proud of his ability to take someone out without causing them any permanent injury. He had difficulty finding a major at Starfleet Academy, because he didn't want to limit herself to just one occupation. He found that she was drawn to tactics and strategy and had showed an aptitude for it, but also enjoyed biology, anthropology and forensics. He ended up as a fully qualified security officer, with unusually broad interests. Upon the Borealis- there was an terrible accident. On what was supposed to be a routine guard shift for a trade agreement being negotiated by the Starfleet Corps of Diplomats. There was an assassination attempt on the lead diplomat from Telos. Matthew found one of the devices that was meant to destroy the talks, but being a young officer had forgotten that scanning it might disrupt it. The device exploded throwing him off a 2nd floor balcony. He fractured his spine and did severe damage to his left leg. The young lieutenant went back to Starfleet academy and did medical coursework from a hover-chair while he was doing physical therapy. By the time he could walk again, the man was able to take his Medical license exams. |
