The Gathering Storm, Interlude: A Little Tech Support

Posted on Sun Aug 13th, 2017 @ 9:34pm by Commander Mal Xustos & Lieutenant Commander Thex sh'Zoarhi

Mission: When Iconians Deserve to Die
Location: The Park in the Fortress/Mal and Clio's Quarters
Timeline: After Gathering Storm Part 1, before Part 2

Mal looked around until he found the person he was looking for, Lieutenant Thex sh'Zoarhi, the Hera's chief engineer. Mal hated disturbing the young woman on her down time, but he needed a favor.

"Lieutenant sh'Zoarhi?" he called out, announcing his presence. "One of those holocat maids suggested that I might find you here. Do you have a moment?"

"Sure what can i help you with?" Thex asked politely.

"I'm sorry to bother you on your time off, Lieutenant," Mal said. "But I need a favor. I need a way to disrupt communications in an area, so that a person can't use a transporter to beam away from me. It has to be portable, I mean like small enough to be carried on my person. I'd really prefer pocket sized, but keep in mind that I have large pockets on on utilikilt and even if I'm just wearing one of my tunics, I can attach a decent sized pouch to a belt and carry it in there. And before you ask, I don't have any details about the kind of technology this device will have to interact with, but assume a range from below our level of tech to far higher than our level of tech."

"Should be easy enough for me to build though who is it you want to prevent beaming out?" Thex inquired.

"That..." Mal said. "I can't tell you. Oh, and you have an hour and a half at most to put this device together and show me how to use it, so...no pressure."

"Very well give me a replicator and a soldering iron and i'll have something made in twenty-five munites. " The andorian said already knowing what she needed to get one built.

"Excellent," Mal said. "I knew I could count on you. Can you meet me at my quarters here at Enalia's castle in say, forty-five minutes, an hour at the outside, and bring the device with you?"

"Sure I'll see you then." Thex replied.

"Come to think of it," Mal said. "See if you can make two. The group might need to split up. See you in a bit."

[Later]

Mal finished packing the last of his things. All that was left was for Thex to drop off the tech she'd said he would assemble for him.

The door buzzed as the andorian pressed the alarm. She had the device in her hand and just needed to hand it over.

Mal went over to the door and opened it.

"Welcome, Lieutenant," Mal said. "What have you got for me?"

" One jamming device. Should stop any communications you need to stop. Just use the switch on the side and it will switch on. " The andorian said as she handed her commander a small black box no bigger than a matchbox.

Mal held one of the devices in his hand.

"Perfect," he said. "What kind of power cell life are we talking about? How many times can each be used and for how long?"

"I used the most powerful cell i could find. One hour life though you could set it up to transmit power wirelessly if you need a longer charge." The andorian responded.

"Great," Mal said. "Again, thanks for the hard work and creativity on such short notice. I'd invite you to stay and chat, but I've got to go."

Mal picked up his bag.

"Come, Lieutenant," he said. "I'll walk you out."

The andorian nodded and followed the commander.
