Intel Brief

Mission: When Iconians Deserve to Die
Location: Captain's Ready Room

Clio wasn't sure if Enalia was keeping herself updated with the progress on the Master's profile. Regardless, she felt obligated to at least talk to Enalia about what Aewia had shared with her. Whether Enalia had read the file or not, Clio felt the need to tell someone, and Enalia seemed a good choice. She already burdened Mal with enough of her personal trauma and work-related drama. He didn't need to hear her talking about how the Master had enslaved Aewia on top of all that. So she tracked Enalia down to the ready room and rang the chime to request entry before tucking herself in the corner next to the door. She was more out of the way there and fewer people seemed to be watching her as she waited for Enalia to answer.

"Come in," came Enalia's call, as she set aside a PaDD she was reading. Her desk terminal was already off, so instead, she leaned forward in her chair as the doors opened to reveal Clio. "Commander Eneas, please, have a seat."

"Why do I always feel like you've been expecting me?" Clio took a seat as bidden, though she didn't quite relax. "How much of Aewia's file on the Master have you read?"

Enalia glanced worriedly between Clio and her desk terminal. "I read it at the start of shore leave but there wasn't more than I expected. Her adding to it was part of why I allowed her to work in your department in the first place. Why? Has she added more to it? something unexpected?"

"Yeah. You're not gonna like it." Clio hadn't even been around for the events she'd just discussed with Aewia and she didn't like it. "How far back do you think your encounters with the Master go?"

Enalia paused a second, thinking. "Chronologically, that would be our recent trip in time... Selen VI was his first encounter with us as far as we know of. As far as our first encounter with him... Intel Command suspects that the Romulan research station with those infamous Kobali Borg undead dog hybrid things that we blew up was actually his. That was likely our first indirect encounter with him."

Clio shook her head slightly. "Oh he was involved in that for sure. But the first time he touched your ship and crew comes even before that. To the day you were sent to rescue Aewia, in fact."

"She put in her report that he was involved in her interrogation and investigation, but not to what extent..." Enalia paused and took a deep breath. "Am I going to not like what I find if I reread her report? Was rescuing Aewia actually part of some incredibly long term trap that he's laid out for us?"

"I don't know for sure, but that's the impression I got when she told me she was bait." Clio growled a bit, a sound more suited to a Ferasan than a humanoid. "Apparently the only person she ever told before me was Nexi."

Leaning back in her chair, Enalia steepled her fingers in front of her and pursed her lips for a moment in thought. "Great... So then, is our next mission the final trap? Is it the one after? Can the trap be repeated? Can it be disarmed? Or maybe it's more of a duel..."

"We didn't get that far before I was worried about... breaking her. Regardless, we have two weapons that can kill the man. Supposedly. I intend to get that job done before he springs his final trap on us. Whatever that may be..." Clio didn't like puzzles that she couldn't solve.

"We'll need to be extra cautious," Enalia added, still contemplating their current mission to find the Master's main base of operations.

"I know. But I'm going to get it done regardless. He's cost the Federation too many lives for us to let him go wandering away through the universe." Clio was by no means the person with the best moral compass in Starfleet, but she knew when someone just needed to be gotten rid of, for everyone's sake.

"There's too much at stake. Be careful, but don't hesitate." Enalia nodded. "I'll take a look at the files again. Is there anything else I need to know about?"

"No, I think that was everything..." Clio was sure there was probably something else she'd need to talk to Enalia about, but she couldn't think of what it could be. "I need to shoot something. Or blow something up. Maybe break a few things."

"You go do that and I'll review these files. Be ready to hit the Master in the next day or two though." Enalia nodded, dismissing Clio. She had some studying to catch up on, it seemed.

Clio didn't think she needed to respond verbally, so she just nodded and let herself out. The safest place for her to be now was the holodeck.
