| Personal History | Daytona Ral has been many things in his life, but he started as the child of Rigelian physician Dilahno Ral and an El-Aurian woman named Niome. Niome met Dilahno when she was a medical student at one of Rigel V’s renowned medical schools. By Rigelian custom, Niome had the right to take many husbands, but Dilahno and Niome bucked tradition and married another couple they had become close to. Together, they opened a small, rural practice in the country where they raised their children. Niome would go on to stay with her spouses until they all passed, before moving on. Daytona attempted the life of a monk. We’re talking about Rigelian monks so the certainly weren’t celibate, making the life more bearable. However, after spending twenty years at the Monastery at Gol on Rigel V, Daytona felt no more enlightened. He’d learned the physical skills and he’d been able to perfect some level of psychokinetic ability, but Numerology escaped him. While he was as likely to swear on the Prime Number as any Rigelian, he really had no clue what it all meant or how it all worked. His slow aging also made the other monks and the Abbot uncomfortable. Just how long was this incompetent monk going to be there? Forever? After twenty years, a mutual decision was made for Daytona to move on. Still young, he joined the Rigelian military, mostly working the borders with the Kaylar, but also dealing with Orion aggression. He started in the infantry and moved on to reconnaissance and then special operations. After fifty years in the military, he was recruited into the Rigelian intelligence services, working mainly gathering information on the Orions, but other races as well. After fifty years in Intelligence, he moved on, this time to the police force in Rigel V’s capitol city. Beginning as what translates into Fed Standard as ‘Police Constable’, Daytona worked his way up to what would translate as Detective Chief Inspector. After fifty years in the NJC Constabulary, Daytona moved on again, this time shipping out on a merchant vessel. He spent fifty years traveling around the galaxy. He visited many worlds, worlds that the Federation would not encounter until the 2200s and 2300s. In 2210, he started hiring himself out as a mercenary and privateer. It is believed that he spent at least some of this period employed by the Nyberite Alliance, among others. In 2260, tired of the wandering life, Daytona enlisted in Starfleet. Though not a Federation citizen, he joined under a program that would grant him citizenship in exchange for service. He claimed he didn’t know his mother’s species, just that she appeared human and that she was probably why he was having such a long life. Despite his citizenship status, he was first recruited into Security before later being recruited into Starfleet Intelligence. He worked many years in the Rigel System, a return home for him, blending into the background, working sources. Rigel was where the Federation, the Klingon Empire, and the Romulan Empire met, not to mention the birthplace of the Orion Syndicate. Spies, criminals, pirates, gamblers, merchant shippers, and more. Information was everywhere if you knew how to obtain it. Daytona began working near and even in Romulan space, using his resemblance to his Romulan cousins to his advantage. Well placed prosthetic forehead ridges and he could blend. Learning the language wasn’t difficult for Daytona. Languages came easily to him. After the Tomed Incident in 2311, it was considered too much of a diplomatic liability to run Federation operatives inside Romulan space. All but the blackest of black operations were dismantled. Daytona earned both an undergraduate and graduate degree, completed Warrant Officer/Limited Duty Officer Candidacy School, and became a Warrant Officer. He began serving with the Special Activities Division. In 2338, he was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer and he has been a CWO ever since. He served in the Cardassian Border War, the Federation-Klingon War, and the Dominion War. |
