Mission: Temporal Kickback

Kyle had lost track of time since being confined in the cold, damp, dark cell that he and Ethan shared. He was hungry. Their captors had given them nothing but water to drink since they had arrived and his stomach was gnawing away at him inside and driving him crazy. "I can't handle this for much longer." he uttered quietly, his voice echoing around the cold stone walls.

Ethan was hungry, cold and irritable. Not to mention more scared than ever. He had been doing his best to keep it together, to be the strong one but the longer they were held, the less confident he was feeling that his mom was going to be able to pull off a rescue. And Kyle, as much as he loved him, was starting to get on his nerves.

"I'm hungry too Kyle," he told him, "get over it." The words came out harsher than he intended. "Look babe, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like that. I know you're hungry. Trust me so am I, but we just have to, I don't know, think about something else. You remember our first real date?"

"Our first kiss." Kyle smiled at the memory, trying to do as Ethan suggested as he welcomed the distraction.

"Yeah, our first kiss. We went out for iceswirls after you won the Parrises Squares game, with the last second goal. Everyone was ecstatic, but instead of going out with the team, or to he Headmaster's party, you went with me. Just me. And afterwards, as we were walking home, we kissed under the Clock Tower. I will never forget that."

"Me either." Kyle replied, "My very first kiss." he added, his eyes filled with love for the boy in his arms.

"And you know, I never plan to kiss anyone else. Kyle, my mom is coming. You know her. She's not going to let me, let us die. They'll be here."

"But it's been so long." Kyle replied, "And no-one has even checked on us...it's like we've been left here to rot."

"I know, babe," Ethan replied caressing the other boy's cheek. "But I'm telling you it's goi....."

His words were cut off as the outer door, thick and made from some kind of metal, slammed open and a man wearing a Picard mask stepped in.

"Well boys, I got some bad news for you, you two may not make it out of here alive. Or you may wish that we'd killed you after we do what we're going to have to do. It seems that Kyle's mommy and daddy, are stalling for time."

Two more men entered and aimed phasers at the pair of teens, they to were wearing masks. Picard opened their cell door, roughly grabbed Kyle, pulling him away from Ethan. He then backhanded him across his left cheek. Ethan started to intervene but the men with the phasers persuaded him not to.

"Please no!" Kyle whimpered as the men pulled him away from Ethan, "We'll do anything, just please...don't kill us." he begged before starting to cry.

Ethan was once more filled with a combination of anger and fear. Adrenaline was coursing through his veins and his heart thundered against his chest. He had been feeling a little irritated with Kyle's whining, even though he had been wanting to whine himself. But he wasn't feeling that now. He only felt love and concern for the other boy. More convinced than ever that if they got through this he was going to ask him to marry him. No matter what either set of parents thought.

The question was, would they actually get through this.

Picard looked at Kyle derisively. "You are such a pussy. At least you're boyfriend had the balls to not cry and fight back. I would kill you right now if you weren't still valuable." He slapped him again. "Now you're going to make another holo-vid and you're going to tell them, they have one hour to comply, or we'll cut off one of your fingers. Then every ten minuets, we'll cut off another one. It will be painful believe me. Then we're done with all ten fingers, you'll be of no use to us and we will execute you. It is important to get this right. Do you think you can handle it?"

"Anything." Kyle whimpered, "I'll do anything, just don't...please don't hurt either of us."

"Good," said Picard"Just tell them exactly what I told you." He then got out a hand-held holorecorder and turned it on. "Now talk," he said.

"M-Mom? Dad?" Kyle whimpered, "Please do as they say, if-if not they're going to cut off my fingers one by one until you pay." his voice trembled as he spoke, the terror in his voice unmistakeable.

Picardgrinned. He'd accomplished what he wanted to accomplish, even turned on a bit by the fear Kyle and Ethan were demonstrating. "Good, "he said. "Let's hope they get the picture now. We're going to upload and send it now."

A few minutes later in the Cross home, the message from a very shaken and stressed out kyle was displayed. Ted just stared at it opened mouthed and in shock. He was no longer casting blame or caring about who his son was attracted to. He just wanted him back.

He turned to Ulani glaring at her. "So do you still say we should refuse payment? It is your son's life on the line too. What have you been doing to find them?"

"Well thanks to this most recent transmission we've got a fix on them." Ulani grinned from ear to ear as one of her team handed her a PADD. "So I guess we go and extract them right now." she added, eager to get going.

Ted's glare softened slightly. "Are you sure about this? I mean really sure?"

"I don't get things wrong." Ulani stated as matter of fact. "Now...I suggest you stay out of our way and let us do what it is we do."

"Very well," he replied, "I'm counting on you. They're counting on you."

Ethan found himself alone in the cell. Kyle had been taken away, and he didn't know why, but he feared the worst. The resolve he'd been putting up, melted away. The facade of strength he had been doing his best to maintain crumpled.

Sacred and alone, he started to cry.

The shimmer of a transporter beam suddenly filled the room and Ulani plus one of her operatives materialised in the small cell, her eyes fell upon her son and relief flooded through her body as she rushed to him and gathered him into her arms. "Ethan...thank the gods."

The relief Ethan felt was instant, but fleeting "Kyle, they've taken him. You've got to get him back. I love him."

"Go." Ulani said to the man in black, "I'll take Ethan to safety and send Rogers down to join you."

The man nodded silently and after using a device to pick the lock to the cell door, exited the room, phaser in hand.

Uncaring that he was a naked teenage boy, he absorbed her hug and wrapped his arms around her in return.Tears flooding down his face, "Oh mom, I... I was so scared. I thought you weren't coming."

"Have I ever let you down?" Ulani whispered as she kissed the top of his precious head.

"No, you haven't. I just was feeling helpless and I had to be the strong one. I don't know how I did it. Kyle was just so, I don't know klingy, needy, but I don't care. I thought I liked him. liked him a lot. But I don't. I love him. I mean love him, love him like you and dad love each other."

"Feels great doesn't it?" Ulani smiled at him, "Well then, as you love him so much, let's get you back to the transport and then I can help the others find him."

"Okay," he said grateful that she took him seriously and that he was about to be reunited with the boy that he loved with all his heart.

"Come on, let's go." Ulani whispered, holding him tight as she tapped her combadge and waited for the extraction. Within seconds, a shimmering light heralded their salvation. Ethan was finally safe.

Her team began the search of the building. Three of the four would be kidnappers were found and eliminated. The men were loyal to Ulani, not Starfleet and had no qualms about killing the scum that had kidnapped a boy many of them considered a friend, and his friend. They did not however find Kyle.
