Researching the Cane

Posted on Thu Apr 30th, 2015 @ 5:34pm by Commander Sinek & Commander Angelica Fairchild & Lieutenant Vi Mingenbach PhD

Mission: The New Sydney Fiasco
Location: Science Lab II

Vi had left the bridge and was currently in science lab 2. She sighed to herself. She was still getting used to everything, as this was a new ship. When she entered, there was already a crewman working inside and he looked at her with a confused look. "I'm Dr. Mingenbach," Vi said softly. "A new officer...just posted..." He nodded and finished his things and left.

Vi then placed the Ophidian cane under quarantine. "Computer, begin sensor scan of the cane," She said and then tapped her communicator. "Um...Dr. Mingenbach to Commander Sinek...could you please join me in science lab 2?"

Sinek was still on the bridge, gathering more information from the reports on injuries and deaths from the recent attack. Those only injured may have experienced permanent damage from the draining of neural energy. Perhaps the Science team can find something that would be of use to the medical team in their investigation of the Ophidian cane. What he knew was the Ophidian was a species of snake that was from Devidia II. It fed off neural waves, just as the Devidians did. Beyond that he was not certain. That's when he heard Doctor Mingenbach call through the communicator.

"Aye Doctor," the CSO intoned upon tapping his comm badge.

Within ten minutes Sinek entered Lab 2. "Are there any findings, Doctor?"

Vi smiled at the CSO. "Yes, commander." She looked at her console. "The computer is still scanning the object, but I do have some information." She crossed her arms. "Besides the obvious of them feeding off neural waves like the Devidians, they also use a gigantic about of triolic waves." She looked at him and gulped. "Because they feed off Human energy, I do not recommend anyone touching and that it is to stay in containment until further researched. The only benefits I see of this is that holder of the cane can use it to drain neural energy from themselves and channel it to them and thus making them a little less susceptible to Proton damage. Engineering could possibly turn it into a weapon...and probably also make it grand enough for accurate time travel."

The Vulcan raised a brow. "Fascinating," he stated. The even tone continued, "I felt the life of the Ophidian within the cane. If that life force drains, will the cane be effective? If not, do we have to feed it neural energy to keep it alive?"

These were questions that needed to be answered before turning the project over to Engineering. Sinek also felt it was time to bring his superiors into the knowledge they had learned.

Tapping his communications badged, Sinek called for the First Officer, "Commander Fairchild, please come to Science Lab 2."

The CSO turned to Doctor Mingenbach, "When the commander arrives, you may report your findings to her." This would give the doctor more exposure to her superiors; it was pertinent that she was comfortable with those in command. It also was good to keep those in command informed.

"On my way," Angel called through the comms. She'd thought she was busy as chief of security! Now she was answering more calls in a day than it felt like she did in a week before.

Once Angel had arrived, Sinek reintroduced her to Doctor Mingenbach. "Doctor Mingenbach has been examining the Ophidian cane that I retrieved from the bridge. Her report of findings may be useful." Sinek turned toward Doctor Mingenbach and gave her an affirmative nod.

Vi looked at Angel's neck, noticing that she now had three full pips. She wondered if she should congratulate her on the promotion. "Well, commander, with a few adjustments to the cane I assume that we can integrate this cane into a way to possibly perfect time travel or turn it into a weapon to drain neural energy."

"Either of those options risks bringing the Devidians back to the ship, which is not a risk I am willing to take." Perhaps Enalia would risk it, but having dealt with the mess the ghostly beings had left behind, Angel wanted no part in anything that would possibly invite them back on board.

"Your concerns are justified, Commander," Sinek evenly spoke. "Can the cane be used in a way without activating triolic waves? It may benefit us to investigate further."

Vi shrugged. "If there is...I haven't figured it out yet. Triolic wave is what essentially powers and activates the cane. We could research and see if we could potentially find an alternative in place of it to not bring back Devidians."

"Keep working on it," Angel said firmly. "And for heaven's sake, be careful."

Very well, Commander. Thank you." Sinek now turned to Doctor Mingenbach, "Carry on Doctor. Keep me apprised."
