Assume the Worst

Mission: Talosian Perversions
Location: In the Corridors
Timeline: After Staff Meeting

The meeting was over and their shift duty was completed, so Sinek now entered the turbolift with Angel. There were a few others with them, so Sinek chose to remain silent. When she got off the lift at her deck, he followed, still saying nothing.

He knew Angel - the way she thought. She had been analyzing this in her mind since she heard the Admiral. He could sense how tense she was. This time, she had reason to worry. His parents would turn out to be Angel's worse nightmare. He remembered when he took on the Doctor's fear during a mind meld - the nightmare that had been. It was Angel who brought him through that horrible experience. He would be here for her this time.

As she walked to her quarters, Angel knew that Sinek followed her the entire way. She wasn't a telepath herself, but she could practically feel the concern radiating from him, and he had good reason for it. Angel was in no way a diplomat, but she knew there were no diplomatic functions to be happening on the Hera any time soon and therefore no reason for two ambassadors to have been sent to them. But it was not a topic she planned to address in the corridor. Instead, she waited until they entered her cabin and then paused a few moments longer to gather her thoughts on the matter. After what felt like hours to her, she turned to look at Sinek. "I'm not sure I understand exactly what's going to happen when they get here." They, of course, being Sinek's parents. "I don't want to fight this woman they're bringing or be the cause of an even bigger rift between you and them... but I don't want you going home with them either."

"My logical place is here," Sinek affirmed. He reached out and caressed her cheek, knowing the stress this was bringing to her. "Only the female can call for a challenger to break the bond. Unless this female has a challenger to the marriage, this will not happen. However, all I, as the male, have to do is object to the marriage. The bond formed when we're mere babes will be broken. It is similar to the human term divorce."

"That's really all it takes? The way people talk you'd think killing someone is the only way out." Angel sighed a bit, still not sure what to think of all this.

"When the female wishes to break the bond," Sinek explained, his voice not fluctuating, "the male she wishes to be her mate becomes her challenger. The two males then fight the kal-if-fee, which is to the death. However, you need not worry."

"Because she didn't bring a male Vulcan with her or because you're pretty sure that if she did you can kick his ass?" Angel gave him a bit of a crooked smile, clearly relieved that by Vulcan tradition she wouldn't be expected to fight.

Sinek allowed himself to feel Angel's sarcasm. The corners of his mouth turned ever so slightly upward. He wouldn't admit it, but her quick wit amused him.

He leaned over an softly kissed Angel's lips. Backing away, Sinek asked, "Angel, have you considered what the Captain mentioned in the staff meeting?"

"Knowing Enalia, it was probably a joke, but I've been thinking about it." Neither of them had ever brought it up before except in hypothetical or theoretical manners, and now Angel found herself wondering why. It was the logical and human course to take. "I think at this point it would be more a manner of legality and paperwork. It wouldn't change our relationship... well. Other than having to share a cabin, which we practically do anyway."

Sinek remembered the loneliness he felt during his self-imposed isolation while he endured Ponn Far. He had yearned for Angel's presence. Her wit. Her touch. Deep within, Sinek knew he wished never again to go through that longing.

Wrapping his arms about Angel's waist, Sinek looked into her grey eyes. "It would bring honor to me, if after this experience, you would become my spouse. I have given this much thought and consideration. It seems logical if two individuals love each other as we do."

"I would be honored to accept such an offer." Kissing him, Angel tried not to be too amused by the formal language.

Sinek was more than honored; he was extremely happy. He was holding her in his arms, feeling her lips on his, now knowing they would very shortly be officially married. Together forever.

Still holding her, Sinek quietly said, "I will ask Captain Telvan to officiate as soon as this with my parents is completed."

"Sounds like a plan." Enalia might be a prankster and all-around joker, but Angel couldn't think of anyone better to perform the ceremony.
