Beginning a friendship

Location: Ten-Forward

T'Pral had finished her first day of duty and as she had surmised, it had been a long one. She was thinking of doing some training or exercises later on the holodeck but at the moment, she was hungry as she sat down at a table near the viewports. With the ship now fully operational after it's full systems test, she was looking forward to their next mission, whatever it may be.

The door opened as the Andorian chief engineer stepped through the doors. After her two days of busily trying to get the ship ready for launch was tiring the girl out and right now she needed a drink, something to eat and then some much-needed sleep. Seeing the chief of security at one of the tables she smiled and walked over. " Hello, T'Pral this seat free?" She asked politely.

T'Pral nodded and grinned, gesturing to the seat. "Yes, but hurry before I decide to charge credits."

The andorian smiled back in reply as she took the seat. " Thanks, I've been up for close on two days now. Finally sorted that mess out."

"You've done a great job," T'Pral commented. "You are very talented."

At that moment a waiter arrived at the table. "What may I get for you ladies?"

"I will have a Vulcan Tea and a chef salad," T'Pral said.

" A large plate of nachos and a large human coke. I am starving." the andorian said politely.

T'Pral grinned as the waiter walked away. "I can imagine, after your work ethic lately. How long have you been aboard the Hera?"

" Three day's now. Mostly on my feet fixing the girl up. One time I got some free time and the holodeck breaks on me." Thex said rubbing one of her eyes. " How about yourself how long have you been here?"

"Today is my first day on board," she replied. "Where have you been stationed previously?"

" I was the assistant chief engineer on the Aberdeen, Cape town and London. Before that, I was on the Annex and the Firebird." Thex replied as the waiter returned with their drinks.

T'Pral thanked the waiter as the food was placed on the table and left for the bar. "I haven't been on as many vessels. I have only served aboard the Alexandria and the Excalibur."

" You must be very good at your job to make chief after just two ships." Thex said taking a sip from her drink.

I spent 4 years aboard my first assignment, the USS Alexandria and then while aboard the USS Excalibur, I was promoted to Chief of Security after Orion Pirates ambushed the ship and the previous chief was killed in the attack. I remained there for 7 years," T'Pral stated. "The captain of the Excalibur fought to keep me aboard but orders are orders when it comes to Starfleet Command."

" Sounds like you had an exciting career. Don't see much action when you're buried down in warp core. " Thex replied as she ate some of the nachos.

"Perhaps, however your role is critical to entire ship and if you don't see much action then that means my department is doing their jobs," she smiled. "Have you gotten anytime on the holodeck as of yet?"

" Got on for a short while. Was swimming off the coast of the Orkney islands when the program glitched and loaded in one of the natives mythical creatures that nearly took my head off. " Thex replied smirking to herself slightly. " I've gotten them fixed now in case you wanted a go."

"I was thinking of doing some training later, so I am glad that they are fixed. Would hate for a creature to attack me while fighting a Klingon for example," T'Pral replied. "I am glad you were uninjured, though."

" If you're doing some training and need a sparring partner I'd be willing. Been looking to get some practise in." Thex replied as she made her way through her food much to her stomachs relief.

"I would like that," T'Pral admitted. She normally preferred to train alone but she also knew the importance of making friends aboard a ship.

Thex smiled in reply as she continued her meal. She had barely gotten anything to eat over the last two days. " Thanks. Been quite a while since i practice my martial arts." She replied after taking a drink to clean her throat.

"Once things settle down aboard the ship, I plan to begin offering self-defense classes to help others in their self-defense knowledge or learn a new art," T'Pral stated, and I don't believe I have ever seen anyone eat so much," she grinned now, reminding herself never get between a hungry Andorian and their food, as she took a bite of her salad.

" Barely had anything in the last two days. Still, it will be nice to get my martial arts up to shape." Thex replied having polished off the last of her meal.

"When you have time, I would welcome the company on the holodeck," T'Pral said. "Which art have you practiced?"

" Andorian guard martial arts. Learned them since I could walk. What about yourself?" Thex replied finishing off her drink as she did so.

"Mostly the Vulcan art of Suus Mahna and Starfleet self-defense," T'Pral replied, though she preferred Suus Mahna to standard Starfleet self-defense.

" I remember fighting someone trained in Suus Mahna back in the academy. Don't remember the fight well other than they accidently broke one of my antenna off." Thex replied grinning to herself.

"That had to hurt," T'Pral said, surprised. "Any permanent damage?"

"Nah." Thex replied tapping her antenna " Just had a little problem walking for a while and T'Leia helped me with that. "

"Who is T'Leia?" T'Pral asked after swallowing the rest of her salad.

" My former roommate and sparring partner. No idea where she is now off doing some work with intelligence. " Thex replied calmly as she motioned for another drink from the waiter.

"I see. It is commendable that you still think of your former roommate." T'Pral never really kept up with relationships with roommates, save for her Academy Roommate, Hannah McTaggert. "What do you make of your department?"

" Decent though I need to see how they work under fire though everyone's had experience though so they should be fine. What do you make of yours? " She asked the hybrid.

"I really haven't had a chance to study their strengths and weaknesses. I will have to put them through some drills on the holodeck to be certain," T'Pral said. "I should get back to my duties. It was a pleasure meeting you, and I hope we can meet up again another time," T'Pral smiled.

" Indeed I'll talk to you later, " Thex said still having her second drink. After this, she be back in her quarters having a well-deserved sleep. This posting was turning out very well.
