Science/Ops Meet

Posted on Thu Oct 5th, 2017 @ 4:35pm by Lieutenant Nathanial Summers DSci & Akira Zhuri

Mission: When Iconians Deserve to Die
Location: Chief Science Officer's Office

Today was a happy day! Today was the day that the little blue hologram known as Akira no longer had to manage two departments; what a happy day! Not that it was all that much trouble to manage the Science Department, but now she would be free to focus solely on Operations. Humming a merry tune, Akira made her way through the ship with a stack of PaDD's to the Chief Science Officer's office, where the computer had alerted her the new CSO would be; she hadn't been in this office much, preferring to work out of her own department, so it was nice to see know that this room would finally see some use, making the Operations Chief in her quite happy that all areas of the ship would once again be functioning as intended.

Lieutenant Nathan Summers was seated in his office reading up on Farenia and Nexi's condition and becoming more and more confused by the minute. Medicine was not his forte which was why he had elected to go into Science. Even his humanoid anatomy and physiology was deficient. So he felt imminently hampered by his own lack of the necessary information. He needed a doctor and that's what this ship didn't have at the moment. Slamming his fists on his desk, he groaned, "Damn! Damn! Double damn!"

Akira flinched in surprise when she heard the slamming coming from the CSO's Office. As she approached, the door opened and she peeked in cautiously. "H-hello? Is everything alright?" the little Bolian-Trill hybrid asked warily.

"Yes...? You must be Akira Zhuri, the senior operations off...per...entity," he said with a confused smile.

"I'm a person," Akira said with a frown. "Just because I'm a photonic life form doesn't mean I'm not still a person!" This wasn't the first time someone didn't know how to react around her... "And yes, I am Akira Zhuri, and as for my lacking status as an Officer, I'm working on my Enlistment, but things have been so hectic lately I haven't had time to finish my coursework."

"My apologies, Akira. I've never worked with any holograms before," he said feeling bad about managing to piss off two, count them, TWO, fellow crewmen today. First, the captain and now this person. He even hit on the exec without meaning to. His new crew were all going to think him an inhuman monster before he was done.

"Apology accepted," Akira said, and in her mind that was all that needed to be said on the matter! She stepped closer to the desk and set the stack of PaDD's before him. "In the absence of a Chief Science Officer, I have been filling in," she stated, then offered a meek smile. "Mostly I've just been letting the Science department do what they felt was best since I needed to focus on my own department, but I did regular checks to make sure everyone was remaining productive. Oh, and I already wrote up the duty roster for the week and signed off on all reports, but I thought you might like to review them to help catch up on what's been going on."

Nathan looked at the hologram a little more intensely than before and noticed that she didn't read like your everyday run-of-the-mill hologram. He was intrigued. "Thank you, Ms. Zhuri. That is greatly appreciated. I hope that we can become friends in spite of my slip of the tongue. I also hope that we can still collaborate as fellow officers in the future," he said as he continued to monitor her closely without her appearing to notice. What he could see should help him in not making another mistake like that again.

Akira smiled brightly. "I like making new friends!" she said cheerfully, clearly not one to hold a grudge. "And my initial creation was designed around Science, so I would be happy to continue to collaborate. Although first I would confer with Crewman Dedjoy, if I was you; at the moment we are dealing with an unknown contagion, at this time known only as 'black blood', and she has made the most headway with this contaminant, both in its detection and treatment. A member of our crew and a visiting Commodore have been infected, I'm sure they would appreciate your attention."

"That sounds like a good place to start. Thank you, Akira. And I want to apologize for my error. Know that nothing like that will ever happen again," Nathan said smiling. He felt a warm spot in his heart for the first time since joining this crew. He had made a friend today and he would make sure this was the first of many.

"It's alright," Akira replied with another cheerful smile. "Is there any way I can assist you while you settle in?" she asked; though there was emotion and intonation in her voice, the way she asked, she sounded very much like the computer, but sometimes that's just the way she was...

"How much do you know about this 'black blood', as you call it and Borg nanotechnology?" Nathan asked with an impish smile. He had a thought, a very delicious thought.

"My Father was one of the foremost experts in Borg nanotechnology, and since I inherited his memories with his death, I suppose that makes me an expert in Borg nanotechnology," Akira replied. "And Mother Andy is an ex-Borg and an expert in cybernetics; she used a great deal of Borg technology to design Mother Maica's android body, much of which then went into my design. Suffice it to say, I have a vast understanding of Borg technology. As for the black blood, I can tell you what's in Dedjoy's reports; though I contain a vast scientific database which includes biochemistry, it is not an area I find myself excelling at."

"Nor I, actually. I know the basics and that's about it," Nathan said sadly. He found himself wishing there was a CMO assigned to this ship more and more. He knew their help would be invaluable during this mission. "Well if there's nothing else, I'd say we were adourned for now?"

"Yes, I'll leave you to settle in," Akira said cheerfully. "But do let me know if you need anything." And with that, she promptly disappeared; sweet girl, but she still had a bit to learn about certain social cues.

"Thank you on both accounts and also for keeping the science department under control," Nathan said to the girl.
