Mine Enemy

Posted on Sat Jan 31st, 2015 @ 4:48pm by Captain Enalia Telvan & Aewia Larani & Lieutenant Commander Trevor St. John III & Lieutenant Richard Lockheart & Commander Angelica Fairchild & Staff Warrant Officer Nexi & Lieutenant Commander Aelyn Radt

Mission: Reman Z
Location: Main shuttlebay

"I don't trust her," Aelyn said to Enalia as they walked down to the shuttle bay to see the team off onto their mission.

“Trust her or not, she has the skills we need. As long as we have something she wants, we can trust her.” Enalia had a grim expression on her face as they walked. She trusted Nexi to a limit and she wasn’t about to reveal to her what that limit was.

“And just what do we have that she could possibly want?” Aelyn said as they came to a stop just outside the shuttlebay doors.

Pausing and waiting for a crewman to pass out of earshot, Enalia leaned in and spoke softly. “The agent we rescued? It’s her half sister and only surviving family. Don’t let anyone you know that.”

Aelyn’s eyes widened in disbelief at that fact, but nodded her agreement to remain silent. She had seen Nexi’s type from her time at DS12 and knew that kind of crowd couldn’t be trusted, but recalling how that vagrant had acted around the former Lieutenant Larani during the staff meeting was something promising. “I still don’t trust her, but I will tolerate her,” Aelyn answered as she walked through the doors to the bay. “So long as she remains useful.”

Following Aelyn into the massive main shuttlebay, Enalia nodded. “Fair enough. Let’s see if the shuttle is ready to go. We should be dropping out of warp soon.”

"Damn it, Jones, how many times do I have to tell you? If you can't carry it in a pocket or on a belt or attached to your rifle, it stays here? No rucksacks!" If Angelica was capable of starting fires with her brain, the young security officer would have disappeared in a mass of flames and smoke.

"Sorry," Jones squeaked, disappearing behind a crate where Angelica couldn't glare at him anymore.

"These kids! I swear, it's like they don't teach--" Catching sight of Enalia and Aelyn approaching through the shuttlebay, Angelica quickly went silent, busying herself with checking over the replicated TR-116 they'd be taking along on the mission.

"Everything ok, Lieutenant? All the EV suits ready?" Enalia said as she walked up. She may have had a pilot's rise through the ranks but she could still look over that rifle admiringly. It was certainly a fascinating weapon no matter how you looked at it.

"Everything's fine except the dummy who keeps trying to bring along a whole locker's worth of stuff with him." Angelica shot the ensign a look as he peeked out from behind a crate. "EV suits all test out as pretty well perfect, so once everyone's geared up we should be good to go."

Enalia chuckled softly at the troubles, glancing towards the ensign in question. "You're authorized to do EV suit training whenever you need to. Toss him out an airlock with that pack sometime so he'll learn to pack light."

"No way, really?" Angelica snickered a little, ignoring the pained noise Jones made at the suggestion. "I think I got the point across already, but I'll keep that tactic in mind."

"Ooh, can I play this game?" Nexi said, wandering in from her ship across the pad. She was without her heavy leather jacket or the extra bulk of the knives concealed under her clothes. Instead, she held in her hand a Ferengi energy whip. "I wanna toss someone out an airlock!"

Nodding to Nexi, Enalia smiled a bit mischievously. "That might be good training while at warp too. The bottom of the saucer is generally safe."

"Sweet!" Nexi said with a big grin. "Normally, I'd use my own gear for this sort of thing, but I can't remember the last time I maintained my EV suit, so if you don't mind I'll be borrowing one of yours. Otherwise, I'm good to go."

"I feel better with you in one of ours too. We have the frequencies for the cameras already and if there's a risk of contamination, they're all going to be destroyed anyway." Enalia said more seriously. "In fact, you might need to spend some time in quarantine after this if things go poorly. If things go bad... well... Let's hope for the best, shall we?"

"Fine, fine..." Nexi said with a nod. "Just take care of my girl," she added, pointing her thumb over her shoulder to her ship, but between the two of them there was no mistaking what she really meant: Aewia.

"That reminds me..." Turning to her XO, Enalia had that mischievous look in her eye again. "Commander Radt, can I count on you to keep Aewia calm while she's on the bridge?"

Aelyn raised a brow, perplexed by this request. What did she look like, a babysitter? "I suppose?" she said, having no clue what she was supposed to do to keep the brain-damaged Betazoid calm.

"If you need some advice, she likes soft, fluffy things," Nexi said with a snicker and a pointed glance to Aelyn's tail. Aelyn's only response was a huff, her tail fluffing up in agitation. She really did not like this Nexi woman.

Angelica snorted, easily seeing the signs of feline agitation. "Welcome to the club. She annoys everyone... no idea why we put up with her." She gave Nexi a bit of a grin. "Now where the hell are Lockheart and Commander St. John?"

As she finished saying that, Richard walked into the Shuttlebay, carrying a phaser rifle and looking quite sweaty. Despite volunteering for the mission, he was still quite nervous about the outcome. It was a dangerous mission they were embarking on, one he might not return alive from.

Walking over to where everyone was gathered, he asked "Are we ready to go?"

Her expression turning grim, Enalia decided to break the news to the team since they were all here. "Commander St. John may not be able to make it now. Our Assistant Medical Chief has gone missing. Yes at warp 8. Nexi, after you get back I'll need you prepped immediately to deal with our pirate friends."

"If we have to, we'll leave without him." Angelica hated the idea of going into a possible biohazard zone without medical personnel, but if Trevor's assistant was missing the ship couldn't afford to spare... anyone really. She glanced over at Richard, noting with some hidden amusement how scared he looked. "You volunteered. You're not allowed to be nervous," she needled him, smirking a bit.

"If I'm flying this thing then he's got every reason to be nervous," Nexi said, nodding in Enalia's direction in acknowledgement of the additional order.

Trevor had been about to head out for the mission when his assistant had been reported as missing. With a heavy sigh he considered his options. Finally he decided to activate the EMH and then hurried to attend to the away team. As he walked in, he apologized, "My apologies, my assistant suddenly disappeared. I have activated the EMH."

"Well if you're still coming along, get suited up." Angelica pointed him toward the waiting EV suits. "Everyone else too. There's not enough room in the shuttle for us to be trying to change in there."

"Or for a rucksack," Enalia added with a wry grin. "As soon as we drop out of warp we'll send you any new sensor data. Good luck."

"That too!" Angelica agreed with a bit of a laugh as Ensign Jones scrambled into his EV suit and sulkily boarded the shuttle. "Thanks. I have a feeling we'll need it."

Trevor nodded his head and quickly slipped into the EV suit. Looking up, he nodded hi head slightly. "I'm ready."

Once her team was situated with their suits, Angelica put hers on, taking care with the seals to be sure they were air tight. "All right, people. Let's move."

Suddenly Enalia's comms clicked on with a male voice. "Captain, this is the bridge. We've arrived in system and we've found another obstruction. Do you want to come up and look at this minefield yourself or should I just describe it to you?"

Tapping her comm badge, Enalia replied. "I'll be up shortly. Hold position until then."

"Sounds like you've got more fish to fry. Let's get this shuttle launched so you can take care of that." Angelica flashed Enalia a smile and ushered her team inside the shuttle, pausing in the shuttle's airlock. "Try not to have too much fun without us, Captain."

"See you all soon." Enalia said with a lopsided grin. When the door closed, she turned back towards the shuttlebay entrance and headed back towards the bridge.
