Ghost in the Closet

Posted on Sun Apr 19th, 2015 @ 11:17pm by Aewia Larani & Staff Warrant Officer Nexi

Mission: Temporal Kickback
Location: Nexi/Aewia's Quarters
Timeline: During the Devidian attack

Aewia sat peacefully on the couch, munching on some fried rice and asparagus while looking at a PaDD with pictures of places she'd supposedly been. She didn't remember most of these places, though she did remember having been to most of them.

"Hey kiddo," Nexi said as she flopped onto the couch next to her sister, kicking her feet up onto the coffee table. "Whatcha lookin' at today?"

"Places they say I've been." Aewia said, showing the current picture to Nexi - a large arched structure next to a river. "I think I remember a few of them, but most just make my head hurt, like this one."

"Maybe you're trying too hard to remember," Nexi siggested, taking a look at the PaDD. Nexi felt like maybe she'd been there too, but she had been to so many places that they all sort of blurred together after a while. Or maybe she was simply picking up on Aewia's sense of failiarity. "That place looks nice. what is it?"

"Supposedly, some sort of early industrial monument to exploration in a city called Saint Louis. This is a picture I apparently took while on Earth." Aewia remembered taking pictures in a city that might have had the same name, but she had no recollection of a giant silver arch.

"Never been to Earth," Nexi said as she handed the PaDD back to Aewia, but it made her wonder where she had seen that image. "I guess you went for the Academy and stuff, huh?"

Setting the PaDD and her food aside, Aewia leaned against her sister, a troubled look on her face. "Yeah three times I think. For the academy, then intel training, then again to prep for that last mission."

"What's the matter?" Nexi asked, noticing right away the change in Aewia's demeanor. "Are you remembering something?"

Shaking her head, Aewia's demeanor darkened a bit more. "No, it's more what I don't remember... The Academy... I remember getting ready to go and I remember graduating but nothing in between. None of my time on Earth."

Nexi sat up with a serious gaze. That was odd. So far, Aewia's memory issues had been fairly global; her brain, and thus her memory, had been left in pieces after what the Romulans did to her, and none of her lapses in memory were so neatly confined. "Don't try to remember if it hurts," Nexi cautioned gently. "If it's there, it'll come eventually." But still, it didn't sit well with her that such a defined block of time was just missing. Maybe she should bring this up with Angel or Enalia later. Certainly the doctor should know...

"No, it doesn't hurt... It's just not there." This was starting to bother Aewia. Had she lost these memories during her imprisonment or had she really never gone to the Academy? No, all the proof said she had and she remembered her first assignment well enough. Glancing up suddenly, she felt something she hadn't expected to feel ever again... "I think someone just died... like they were just sucked out of their body..." This disturbed her even more. Was her Empathy coming back that much? She was certainly more clear headed than usual lately.

Nexi felt it too. "No, that's not dying..." And she had been around enough death that she would know. "It's like they just stopped...." In the end, it amounted to the essentially the same thing as death. It was a cold, hollow feeling that encompassed the two Betazoid women, and Nexi knew that something dangerous was happening. She was torn between wanting to check this out and staying to protect Aewia, though she didn't know what she could do against whatever could end a life like this!

"I remember this feeling," Aewia said, getting up from the couch and looking around in a daze. "The ghosts of light and shadow are here." As she said that, the lights turned to that blue eeriness that comes with triolic energy and ghostly figures floated across the room, ignoring the 2 women for now.

Nexi had no idea what a Dividian was or what they were capable of, and when the ghostly figures appeared in their room, Nexi put her arms around Aewia to hold her back and protect her. But the ghostly figures seemed blessedly uninterested in them, but Nexi kept holding Aewia for a long while, her heart racing.

Aewia was strangely calm, eyeing the Devidians as they made their way past the two women. She wasn't afraid of them but she was definitely cautious as she snuggled with her sister protectively. Soon they had passed and the lights flickered back to normal for a moment before returning to the blue tint. The ship started shaking at the same time, getting progressively worse as the seconds ticked by.

"Fuck this noise," Nexi said as she let go of Aewia, disappearing into her room to get her pike. "Aewia, I'm going to take you to Sickbay, you should be safe there. Try to help around if you can, but most importantly, don't get in the way. I wanna find out what's going on here." She shrugged into her leather coat and then, with pike in hand, rejoined Aewia.

While Nexi was gone, there was a brighter flash and then the lights returned to normal and the shaking stopped. Aewia looked to Nexi wide eyed. "What was that?"

"I don't know, but I'm gonna find out," Nexi said as she led her sister out of their shared quarters and headed for Sickbay. "Are you going to be okay if I leave you at Sickbay?" she asked. She sure as hell didn't want to leave Aewia alone right now.

"Mmhmm yeah I know most of the staff pretty well now I think. I should be able to help out a bit too." Aewia said as she followed close behind her sister.

"Good," Nexi said with a nod. Once they were in the lift, she rested her pike in the crook of her arm and faced Aewia, cupping her sister's cheeks with her rough, calloused hands. "Aewia, I've done some terrible things in my life. I don't deserve a sister like you and I don't deserve the peace you've brought me. Dammit, you can drive me up a wall on the best of days, little sister, but if something were to happen to you I think I would truly die inside." Then Nexi planted a soft kiss on Aewia's forehead.

Aewia wrapped her arms around her sister and hugged her tenderly. "I drive myself crazy too. I don't think I can help it and I'm sorry. Thank you for saving me. In more ways than one, I owe my self to you." Her coherence was fading fast, strained as it was by the current events going on, but she was doing her best to stay lucid for Nexi.

Nexi just held her sister until the lift came to a stop and let them out. Then it was on to Sickbay, and to find out what the hell was going on...
