Mission: When Iconians Deserve to Die
Location: Earth: USS Firehawk:Runabout Kyrie
Timeline: Multiple time frames

Earth 3 years ago:

Nathan Summers had just left Earth once more. He was happy even giddy to get back into space once again. He had spent that past 6 months in Starfleet Medical recovering from his injuries from the shuttle crash. Though his injuries weren't critical in any way, the doctors felt he needed the extra time to heal from the malnutrition he suffered while shipwrecked on Perales II with Rear Admiral Jayden Vorik and Lieutenant Subaa.

The rest of the time spent on Earth was visiting with his family and attending to his duties back at Command. He was pleased when Admiral Vorik promoted him to Lieutenant out of the goodness of his heart and out of appreciation for saving his the Subaa's lives at the expense of his own health. Nathan said it was all in the line of duty as far as he saw it. So he felt that the promotion was all the thanks he needed and turned down the position on the admiral's staff once more and decided he needed to get back into space once more.

>USS Firehawk; 5 hours from when he left the ship<:

"Lieutenant Summers, is there nothing I can say to keep you here?" Captain DeSoto asked one last time.

"Captain, just I need to stretch my legs a bit. I feel I've grown all I can here and need broader horizons in order to grow more. The position I'm applying for should help mold me into a firmer being," Nathan said plaintively. He felt like he was talking with the admiral again.

"I understand, Nathan and I respect your decision," the older captain said feeling like he won even if he hadn't done so. He wanted Nathan to stay so much even to the point of giving him another promotion if it meant keeping him. "Godspeed and good luck to you, Lieutenant Nathanial Kristopher Summers."

"Thank you for your understanding, Captain. Likewise I'm sure," and Nathan turned on his heel and exited the ready room for the shuttlebay. Upon reaching his destination, he stopped short of the door and hesitated. For the first time in his life, he felt unsure of himself and his abilities. What if he was taking the wrong step. Then he chided himself for feeling what he was feeling. He had no business doing what he was doing to himself. So he took a deep breath, released it several seconds later, walked into the shuttlebay and over to his runabout.

"Chief Warren, is my runabout ready to depart?" he asked Senior Chief Petty Officer James Warren, the deck chief.

"It should be ready for you to leave in roughly an hour. Is that acceptable, Lieutenant?" Chief Warren asked.

"That sounds good enough to me. Carry on, Chief," he said as he entered the runabout to go over the pre-flight checklist himself as he was peculiar about how his vehicle was handled. He then decided to return to his quarters and get some rest before his long flight to the USS Hera/i>.

>USS Hera Chief Science Officer's Office<:

Nathan was seated in is office going over what records he could find on his current assignment. What he was finding out was that there wasn't much to go on. How he wished for a Chief Medical Officer, someone not photonic. He loved the holodeck as much as the next guy but in his mind that's where holograms belonged. He had never even worked with an EMH. Not that he was prejudiced, but he preferred flesh and blood officers to the artificial kind. What would happen if they decided to take over?

~Nate, STOP!!!~ he heard his inner voice cry out. What was he doing? He needed to speak to someone about this whole deal like now!. He wondered if there was a counselor on board. But first he needed to report to Sickbay for his physical.
