New Beginings

Posted on Tue Jan 20th, 2015 @ 10:11am by Captain Enalia Telvan & Lieutenant Commander Ethan Chaparral MD

Mission: Devotion of Time
Location: Ready Room
Timeline: TBD

Ethan's last assignment had not ended well. That was of course through no fault of his own. Witnessing a murder, especially for someone who hates death so much, is never easy, especially when the one who committed the That was the reason for his transfer, at least partially, for his own protection.

To Ethan, that was something like being thrown from the frying pan into the fire, given the nature of the missions that Hera was rumored to be involved in. Not that he minded, aside from being in small, tight spaces-something that almost caused him to fail the Academy entrance exam- there was little he feared.

The only real negative was that he had heard that his ex-boyfriend Dylan was supposed to be joining the crew too. That was all he needed. A possible assassin stalking his six and Dylan.

The Universe was just so wonderful. Of course rumor also had it, though he had not heard from her to confirm the stories, that his mother would also be joining the crew. Yeah that would make for a nice three ring circus if that happened.

But right now he couldn't worry about any of that speculation. He had a job to do, and after reporting to his boss and getting his physical, he decided to report into to the Captain.

He checked himself out in the mirror before leaving Sick Bay and then made his way to the Bridge. Glancing around as he stepped off the turbo-lift he saw a typical busy bridge crew doing their duties. He spotted the Ready Room and crossed over to it where he pressed the chime and waited for a response.

Hearing the chime, Enalia clicked her terminal off and slid her tea to the side. "Come in," she called, directing her attention towards the doorway.

Ethan walked into the room, with a confidence he hoped was not seen as cockiness. "Good afternoon Captain," he said as he gave her a salute, "Lieutenant Chaparral reporting in. I'm your new Assistant Chief Medical Officer."

"Please, have a seat. I'm not overdue am I?" Enalia said, stiffening slightly. She was pretty sure she was current on her physical. "Welcome aboard, none the less."

"Oh no ma'am," he replied a bit sheepishly as he took a seat crossing his feet at his ankles, "I've just come aboard, so I wouldn't know anything about your status with your physical, I just thought it would be appropriate, if I came and introduced myself to you."

"Ah, in that case, how are you settling in? Everything is going well I hope." Enalia visibly relaxed, leaning back in her chair and smiling politely.

'Well, I've only just gotten aboard," he replied noting with interest that the Captain, like so many Starfleet officers had an aversion to physicals. "but everything is fine so far. I'm looking forward to serving here. I've been on a station recently. It was okay, but I'd rather be on the move rather than stationery."

Enalia couldn't help but chuckle slightly. "Yeah we're on the move a lot. Odds are good most of our missions will take us to places we're not supposed to be."

it was Ethan's turn to chuckle, "Being places we're not suppose to be sounds fun. Though I think my mother warned be about girls like you." He paused color rising to his cheeks, "Sorry ma'am that wasn't exactly appropriate to say to a superior officer. Sometimes my inner smart-ass runs away from me."

"Don't let it run too far. You might need it with some of our crew." Enalia said with a wry grin. More seriously, she continued. "So what do you hope to get out of this assignment? Any goals set up yet?"

He allowed himself a small, half smile at her remark. "Well from a professional stand point, I'd like to get more administrative experience. This is just my second assignment as an Assistant Chief. I'm doing a research paper now on genetically enhanced bio-weapons, focusing on Cardassians, but other hostile races as well. Very nasty stuff. Anyway, I'd like to complete that and have it published. Personally, staying alive would be at the top of the list and it would also, assuming shipboard romance isn't against policy, be nice to find someone. Especially someone who's more interested my heart than my a... other parts of my anatomy. Thanks for asking, but what about you? By that I mean do you have any goals or expectations that you'd like to see from me?"

Enalia nodded sagely as he spoke. "Staying alive would be good. Don't get thrown out of any airlocks. I'd love it if you aided us with this virus thing we're going after that the Romulans made. Doctor St johns will have all the specifics so I'll let you two pore over that."

"Yes, I had heard rumors about the virus. That is in my wheelhouse as they say and I will talk with him about it. Does the ship have a counselor?"

"You have a couple people well versed in psycho-babble if I remember right, but no dedicated counselor unless you count the holographic ones." Enalia explained. "Why do you ask?

There were several seconds of uncomfortable silence as the doctor fidgeted slightly. Then taking a small breath to center himself he said, "Well, aside from expertise in epidemiology, there was another reason I was reassigned here. I was on the Forrest Station and I found myself wandering late one night after I'd gone out for drinks. I... I uh, saw someone killed, murdered actually, by the time I got to him, it was too late and he bled out.

It won't effect my carrying out my duties, but it does help, or so I'm told to talk with someone about it."

Enalia was silent for a moment, considering what he had said. "That's what I've heard as well. If you need to, I'm also told we have a rather good set of holodeck programs just for that. Pretty darn good confidentiality in that, I'd think."

'I may just look into those. One more thing. The last ship I was on, was a smaller ship and we shared quarters. What about here?"

"Officers get their own quarters, families get their own quarters. The only ones that have to share really are cadets and most of the crewmen." Enalia said with a smile. "Is there anything else?"

"No ma'am nothing else. Thank you for seeing me."

"Any time," Enalia said with a polite smile. "Again, welcome aboard. If you need anything, let me know. Dismissed."

Ethan stood to go, smiling a little more broadly as he did so. "Thanks again,"he said as he exited from the Ready Room.
