Temporal Suction

Mission: Temporal Kickback
Location: Hera Bridge

It was just a bit past midnight. Enalia was on the bridge finishing up some paperwork in her command chair. Everything was quiet. The lights were dimmed and most of the ship was asleep.

Suddenly, the ship shuddered and fell out of warp. Glancing at her status screen, Enalia could see that whatever had happened, they had been ripped from warp 8 to almost a dead stop in less than a second. The reason for this was dead center on the viewscreen – a massive blue and black singularity that seemed to tear a line through space and suck the light from the stars near it deep inside. “Report,” she called out, already having a few guesses as to what it could be.

“A singularity Ma'am,” the ops crewman answered. “It's emitting massive amounts of temporal radiation and I'm reading a Borg signature in the center of it.”

Then the helmsman cut in. “Captain, we're being sucked into the singularity. We're at full reverse but I can't keep our position for much longer. Warp drive is offline.”

Tactical reported next. “Shields are down and targeting systems aren't responding.”

The borg? Temporal anomaly? Enalia didn't like what she was hearing. “Get those shields back online. Helm, do whatever you have to to reverse course. What's our distance?”

After a second, the ops officer replied. “Twelve hundred kilometers. Eleven fifty... Calculate we'll enter it in less than fifteen seconds at this rate.”

Punching the ship wide comms on, Enalia didn't have much time. “Red alert, all hands brace for impact.” punching them back off, she called out to the bridge crew. “Where are our shields?”

“Almost...” The tac officer said. “Got them. Shields at 37%”

As the crew braced themselves, they struck the temporal anomaly, the ship shuddering greatly and almost tossing people everywhere. Moments later, they were through and in open space.

“Shields at 12% and holding,” the tac officer reported as soon as the tremors stopped. “Weapons systems report functional. Borg Probe detected off our starboard side.”

“Confirmed,” the ops officer called out. “I'm also picking up several other ships. I don't think they've detected us yet. Federation and Klingon signatures, both with weapons hot.”

“Helm is responding,” the helmsman called. “Guidance systems report that we're in the Cygnus system.”

From the back of the bridge, the science officer on duty called to the front, leaning on the tactical systems bridge rail. “Captain, Stellar Cartography reports we're in the late 2240s.”

2240s? Fuck... Enalia didn't like this one bit. “Disable that Borg probe. It may be our only way home. As for when we are, I want an exact date and I want to know what's going on out there.”

As the bridge crew busied themselves, the ship fired on the engines of the Borg probe repeatedly, eventually breaking through the shields and overwhelming the probe. It hadn't fired back at all and it seemed to be drifting. Then, with one last shot, it exploded spectacularly, vaporizing the ship and rocking the Hera yet again.

“What happened?” Enalia demanded harshly, once the explosion cleared.

“Sorry Captain, it looked like they overloaded their own power plant.” The tactical officer replied. “I didn't even hit anything near there with that last hit.”

“Fine,” Enalia was peeved, but she'd have to deal with this as it was. “Scatter our sensor signature however you can and go to yellow alert. Wake the senior officers and get to work on finding a way home. Have them ready for a staff meeting in one hour. If I remember right, there's an asteroid field rich in duranium near here we should be able to hide in. Set a course, best possible speed.”

Standing, Enalia headed towards her ready room. At the door, she turned back for a moment. “And get some sensor data on this battle. We get home, historians will be upset if we don't.” Disappearing into her ready room, Enalia sighed heavily. There would be no rest for them this night.
