Pigging Out

Posted on Wed Mar 23rd, 2016 @ 11:13pm by Ensign Julián De Rivera & Chief Petty Officer Ginifred Klem & Lieutenant Taro Ishakawa

Mission: Talosian Perversions
Location: USS Hera | Mess Hall

Chief Petty Officer Klem had not had the fortune of formally being introduced to her new Department Head, Lieutenant Taro Ishakawa, but that would soon have to change. After spending several weeks meeting with Ensign De Rivera and discussing things through, the two had started to put their heads together. However, if they were to ever get this thing off the ground, they would need some credible backing and some support.

In the Mess Hall the two were finishing up a meal when the new Chief Operations Officer had walked in and took a seat at a table across the room. Chief Klem looked at the young helsmen. "You ready, kid?" she said with a small snort. The ensign was taking the last few sips of his protein shake.

With a bit of a protein shake mustache, he looked up at the Tellarite. "That's Sir to you, Chief" he said teasingly. He had far too much respect for the woman to ever actually pull rank on her like that. He also had far too much respect for his own life to even try it.

"Yep" she said with a heavy sigh. "You just go on right ahead and pull that rank on me, Ensign. I'll start calling you Sir when you stop looking like a child" she said as she reached across the table and wiped the protein shake mustache off of the ensign. "I should have let you gone over there with that on. I would have laughed my ass off" she added.

Ensign De Rivera felt embarrassed that the Chief had just saved him from looking like a child in front of a superior officer. "Thanks" he said briefly. "Okay, let's do this together. Strength in numbers, right?" he said nervously getting up.

The Tellarite scoffed. "So they say" she said as she collected her PaDD and approached the man's table with Ensign De Rivera at her side. She gave the ensign a nudge. "Go on kid, talk to him. You are closer to his rank than I am" she said in a whisper as they approached.

Julian's mouth hung ajar as he looked at the man. Oh my God...I don't know what to say! he thought as he panicked. He closed his mouth and cleared his throat nervously. "Chief" he said looking over at the Tellarite woman.

Thanks kid, throw me under the bus she thought shaking her head. "Hello, Lieutenant" she said simply. "I'm Chief Petty Officer Klem and this is Ensign De Rivera" she began. "Do you a moment?" she asked the man, gesturing to the empty seats at the table.

Ishakawa stood as there was a woman present and bow slightly. "Please..." He offered the two seats. "I would be honored." He gave them a chance to sit before seating himself, noting the rank of those around him. "You have my undivided attention." He nod and smiled politely.

It was clear by the ensign's silence that the Chief would have to take charge of this. She and the ensign had taken the seats, and Klem politely introduced the two of them. "It is nice to finally have the chance to meet you, Lieutenant. the Ensign here is a flight control officer and I'm the Shuttlebay Manager and Chief Transporter Operator" she said giving him a brief run down of their jobs and duties.

"De Rivera and I have been working on a small undertaking of our own, a side project that we have been slowly spending time with" began the Chief. "You see, Sir, we are working on designs for a new shuttle or runabout class. So far all we have been able to do is think it out, converse with one another, and render some simple sketches" explained Chief Klem

She handed the Chief Operations Officer a PaDD containing some rough sketches and notes. "We would like to advance further in the development stages of this craft, but to do so, we'll need some resources which we cannot obtain without approval. So far, you are the only person we've gone to. We need your endorsement on the project and someone such as yourself who is a Department Head to present our project to the Captain and First Officer."

Ishakawa looked over the sketches; there were a lot of 'concept while the technical data was not over his head he would like to have the opinion of the Engineer about the plausability of the project? The thing that stuck out in his mind as he mentally went over the raw materials that areexpended in the manufacture of a shuttle., the type 11 and 15 being the most popular and easiest to create from nothing he had to venture the hit upon ship board resources.

"I see two things that must be put in a solid account before I place my name for it to progress?" Ishakawa began. "I am being the voice of reason of course." He added. "The difference in design , materials for construction and time involved with designs are greatly different between a shuttle and a Runabout. The Runabout is more of a micro star ship and thus was her design concept. These drawings for the shape and structure are enough to warrant a continued effort but the class of vessel will have to be solidified. " He looked at them both. "The resource allocation and the sheer amount of Holodeck time to be used for the design of a theoretical mock up could be a difference of two hundred percent on the size of craft and complexities." He nod. "To make a successful pitch to the Command you must anticipate the questions; is it to be a shuttle or runabout class is the most important. It will affect your allocation of research materials and time tables." He let the statements sink in for a few seconds. "WHat is she to be and then I will endorse progression?"

Julian broke free from the anxiety and fear that was leaving him without a voice to speak or the confidence that he usually had. The Ensign looked at Chief Klem, but knew that he would have to answer this question. Though the two had been working together on the project, it was initially his idea. Klem provided some sound engineering support in helping Julian and also a voice of reasoning.

"A runabout, Sir" answered the ensign swiftly. "Initially, we had intended for a shuttle, but began reworking it and cutting back on some aspects. We would be proceeding with it being a runabout...possibly something to replace the Delta class" continued Julian.

Chief Klem smiled and placed a hand on the young officer's shoulder. She was proud of him for stepping up and voicing his plans. The Tellarite stepped in to contribute with some defense. "These runabouts and shuttles don't have the duration life the starships they supply support to, Lieutenant. The Delta class is still rather new with the prototype being constructed in the 2370s and with mass production of them occurring in the 2380s into the present. However, we need to think about the future and there are of course refits and upgrades that can be made to the Delta class, but the ensign and I believe strongly that our best hope lies in an entirely new auxiliary craft."

"I would suggest a timeline for your theorical design in the Holodecks and if you give me a list I can approximate a resource allocation list and what impact it will have on ship's stores to have a working model and prototype to help your presentation?" Ishakawa said calmly. "It would do you both good to take the initiative but do not cut any corners as the impact might cost you later in the project. Once you make the approach and get clearances come back and we can discuss what times you can have the Holodeck to do major planning." He suggested. "As far as Auxiliary Craft go it never hurts to keep the other engineers prodded along, a little competition might yeild better results in the future?"

The Chief and the ensign nodded in unison. Chief Klem spoke up in regards to the Chief Operations Officer's critiques and recommendations. "We can work on this later and have it to you by the end of the week, Lieutenant" replied Klem with a nod in the ensign's direction. "We appreciate your support, Sir."

"I am at your service." Ishakawa replied with a smile handing the PADD back. "It is a large endeavor; I wish you much luck with the process." He sat back a bit in his chair. "I have allocated some extra replicator resources for the scale model if you like for presentation along with the holographic model. Having something to 'handle' always helps drive a point home."

"Thank you, Lieutenant. We will keep you updated on our progress" said Klem with a nod. The ensign chimed in "The Chief is right. We will keep you updated. Please, enjoy the rest of your day. We had better start planning this" said De Rivera as he and Klem excused themselves.
