Waking up from Disaster

Posted on Fri Mar 25th, 2016 @ 8:51am by Commander Angelica Fairchild & Captain Enalia Telvan & Commander Sinek & Lieutenant Commander Ethan Chaparral MD & Emergency Medical Hologram (Adam Power) Mk X

Mission: Talosian Perversions
Location: ICU, Main Sickbay

Even in the 24th century, post-surgical pain had a way of catching up to you. Angel knew it from previous procedures - life in Security could get a bit rough - but she was still surprised by the intensity of it as she woke up. There wasn't a part of her that didn't hurt at least a little, but the worst of it was in her chest and abdomen... until she opened her eyes. Sickbay's unkind fluorescent lighting roused the headache and accompanying symptoms from the concussion her brain was healing from, and she pulled the blanket up over her head in hopes of making her world just that tiny bit less painful. She hadn't seen if anyone was nearby, but she suspected Ethan had scanners watching her, so he'd know she was awake regardless.

Ethan had been in his office, going through PAaDs and checking charts, when the console on his desk sounded. He glanced up, saw what patient it was and, after taking a drink of his now cold hot chocolate, hurried toward the biobed Angel was resting on.

"How are you feeling?" he asked.

Oh, good. Ethan could give her drugs. Angel moved the blanket enough to peek at him, still shielding her eyes from the light. "Not great. Everything hurts... I feel like throwing up."

Sinek was now Acting First Officer and had been working hard at trying to keep the ship operating smoothly. The Vulcan spent every free moment he had by Angel's bedside. He was certainly glad that Vulcan's didn't require much sleep. What little rest he needed, he spent in meditation, trying to will Angel through her crisis.

He had just finished the duty rosters, ensuring their accuracy for coverage. Spying some free time, the Commander headed to see his love.

Enalia also decided to go check on her XO at about the same time and noticed Sinek entering sickbay moments before her.

While she waited for Ethan to say something - or maybe produce a couple of hyposprays - Angel thought she heard two sets of footfalls approaching her private little corner of sickbay. She was expecting Sinek at any moment and assumed he was one of them. She couldn't think of who the other might be until she felt the now familiar 'practical joke inbound' prickle on the back of her neck. With Enalia, you didn't have to be a telepath to know she was coming to mess with you. "I swear on everything sacred if you come in here and start trying to prank me, I will throw up on you."

The corners of Sinek's lips slightly turned upward. "That's the Angel I know and love," he evenly spoke.

"Oh come on..." Emaila said as she entered right behind Sinek, a cheek splitting grin plastered across her face. "Give me a little credit at least. I just wanted to see if you were doing better and if you'd be able to take command of the saucer soon."

"...oh god no." Just the thought of looking at the viewscreen threatened to split Angel's head in half and made her want to burrow back under the blanket.

Sinek nodded as he placed his and behind his back. "There is no need to hurry. The vessel is in capable hands. Althslough, it will be excellent to have you up and back in command soon"

"Yeah, I can always leave someone else in charge of the saucer while I take the stardrive back to starbase 972 for two weeks." Enalia said, more serious. "Commander Sinek can stay here and resupply ships while I pick up a supplies pod from command."

Angel made a distressed noise at them, reaching for the plastic basin on her bedside table and pulling it into bed with her. All the talk of coming back to command was making her head hurt worse, and the worse that got the worse her stomach felt. Before she could ask them to talk about something - anything - else, she threw up into the plastic tub, wincing as she did so.

"Sorry, I really shouldn't be bothering you with this right now..." Enalia said sheepishly.

"Oh great. You were serious." Finally figuring out it wasn't a joke, Angel decided she'd better just keep the plastic basin, even if it did smell gross now. "I can't look at a viewscreen right now. Maybe in a couple days..."

"I'll be heading out tomorrow. And I have another favor to ask of you..." Enalia was starting to blush now. "I can't take Maica with me so could you keep her company now and then?"

"Tomorrow? Ugh." Angel didn't think tomorrow was such a great idea, but she couldn't make Enalia stay any longer either. "I don't know. It'll depend on how I feel in the morning." She was willing to bet she was still going to be feeling pretty terrible, just gauging from how she felt now. "And I could maybe keep Maica occupied, just don't expect me to kiss her."

Enalia blushed deep red as she momentarily imagined Angel and Maica both making out with her at the same time.

"I'm getting married," Angel reminded Enalia in a deadpan tone, knowing exactly what Enalia was thinking based just on how deeply the other woman blushed. After a moment, she looked toward Ethan. "I can deal with the pain, but I need something for my stomach. Please."

While the two females chattered, Sinek's attention was upon the sensor readings. It was clear that Angel's was better and improving. The second still appeared active and strong. Commander Sinek had difficulty believing he was going to become a father. Of course, as a Scientist, he understood why he was becoming a father. No one had to explain that to him.

The struggle within him was fear. He had to suppress it. The fear in detail had to do with his Vesik. The fact that Vesik was present on the Hera at the moment heightened this fear. What if Sinek fathered in the same way Vesik did?

Sinek took Angel's hand. He was happy that Angel was recovering. He had done everything he could in the last few days to be her support.

"Ello, whot's this then?" The EMH said as it came online, looking at a holographic PaDD cheerily. "Commander Fairchild, it seems that you're both awake and it's time for your meds. I take it from your bucket, you're more than ready for it? Hmm?" As he spoke, the EMH set aside the PaDD and it immediately vanished when it left his hand. Then he started loading up a set of hypos. Before he administered the first one though, he checked the biobed scanners and nodded. "Ready then?" he asked just before pressing the first hypo to Angel's neck and injecting a general use pain killer and nausea medication.

"Now, if you need anything else, I'll be just over here," The EMH said as he took Angel's tub and gave her a fresh one. Then he headed off to sterilize the old one.

"Thanks," Angel replied, smiling a bit weakly. For a moment, she thought about just putting the 'bucket' on her table then thought better of it. While the drugs Starfleet provided were generally pretty good, her stomach still felt pretty riled up. And she was dizzy, dizzier now with the pain medication he'd given her. She had no idea what it was, only that Ethan had previously ordered only medications that were safe for the baby. Giving Sinek's hand a brief squeeze, she laid back down and pulled her blanket up, leaving the plastic basin in the bed beside her.

Then a thought occurred to Enalia. "Another option... Commander Sinek, do you think our largest runabout could tow a cargo pod half the size and mass of one of our nacelles at warp?"

Sinek raised a brow. The runabouts could tow a starship as large as the Galor class. They were also capable of towing smaller objects at warp speed.

He looked at the Captain as he answered with his plain speech. "They do have the capacity to do so, Captain. It'll take two to man her. What are you contemplating?"

Pulling Sinek a few steps away, Enalia consulted with Sinek further on the situation while trying not to stress Angel further. "I'm thinking of taking the Thor out there once repairs are done on it rather than the stardrive. And I think I'd like to take Daln, Nexi, and Gini with me. We'll still need to separate the saucer to get the cargo pod into the main hangar bay... but that might be a better option. Your thoughts?"

"If Angel is not up to it," Sinek dryly explained, "I am certain the Ensign De Rivera can handle the saucer separation under my direction."

"Excellent. Then I guess I'll be leaving tomorrow once repairs are done and be back in a couple weeks." Enalia said with a bit of a grin. "You're scheduled to rendezvous with several smaller ships, the largest being a Centaur class. Keep your eyes open for anything unusual."

"Do not worry Captain, we will handle each undertaking as efficiently as possible," the Commander assured. "If there are any difficulties, we shall solve them in the most logical manner."

"Thank you. I'll inform the crew affected and my team and then I'm going to take the rest of the day off to pack and set a few affairs in order." With a final nod and a worried glance to Angel, Enalia left Sinek there to watch over Angel a bit longer.

Sinek approached Angel's bedside, gently brushed her hair back from her eyes, and sat in the chair. Despite the improvements in her vitals, she seemed extremely tired. Sinek realized that this was part of the healing process. He sat back, awaiting his love to awake.
